Established in 2014, Te Piki Oranga is the Māori health services provider in Te Tauihu o Te Waka-a Māui (Nelson /Tasman /Marlborough). With community hubs in Whakatū (Nelson), Wairau (Blenheim) and Motueka effective in delivering a range of quality health services, from mobile clinics or in the home.

Mō tēnei tūranga mahi - About this role

We have an exciting full time fixed term opportunity for you to join our Whakatū team as a Pūkenga Manaaki/ Whānau Navigator. You will work as part of a dedicated team of Nurses, Counsellors, Social workers, and business support kaimahi who are passionate about delivering Te Ao Māori solutions under a Whānau Ora framework, enabling whānau to achieve their goals.

Our team is focused on supporting whānau to realize their potential and to facilitate more equitable health and social outcomes for Māori. We work closely other health and hapori/community services to deliver best fit options, tailored to what whānau need, now and into the future.

Some of the important mahi you will be involved in:

  • Working alongside our Clinicians to deliver each Whānau Ora plan, you will support whānau to engage with a range of services, both internally and externally.

  • Building relationships with your whānau as a trusted and innovative advocate enabling them to achieve their goals, both individually and as a wider whānau.

  • Working as a team to deliver tailored solutions from a Te Ao Māori perspective.

  • Embarking on exciting learning and development pathways, both professionally and in ongoing development of cultural competency.

  • Working with your colleagues across our wider organisation to support the delivery of our mahi in a manner that aligns with our vision and values.

  • Developing and maintaining collaborative and innovative relationships within our service and across our communities.

  • Championing opportunities for whānau to increase equity of access and engagement across services.

Ko wai koe /About you

You are invested in providing and supporting better health outcomes for whānau in the community. An advocate to reinforce health messages in the wider community developing and delivering the best standards of care using Kaupapa Māori approaches. Have knowledge of or possess a willingness to learn about conditions that impact Māori health.

  • Knowledge of Te Reo me ōna tikanga is desirable, support to develop cultural competency on the job in a safe environment to do so is essential to our way of working.

  • The ability to think strategically and use solid judgement, along with the ability to prioritise, make timely decisions and trouble-shoot problems.

  • Being clear about the scope you are empowered to operate within and, most importantly, recognising when to seek further support and guidance.

  • Effective communication and influencing skills.
