Health Services for Koroua and Kuia (older people)

Our qualified staff provide free health and social services relevant to koroua and kuia (aged 60 years and over), and their whānau.

Our services are varied and include help with long-term disease management, nutrition, and mobility and fitness advice.

Our focus is on helping whānau independently manage their health condition, so they can maintain optimal health and wellbeing. 

Asthma and CORDs

  • support and education to help prevent and manage asthma and chronic obstructive respiratory diseases (CORDs), such as emphysema

  • the development of respiratory action plans to support the independent management of health conditions

  • the facilitation of positive lifestyle changes such as quitting smoking, or improvements to housing conditions.

Diabetes

  • support and advice for koroua and kuia to prevent, identify, manage and reduce the impact of diabetes

  • testing and screening to confirm diabetes

  • referrals for assistance with problems associated with diabetes, eg feet care or retinal screening

  • personalised diabetes action plans deveoped with whānau, with the involvement of GPs and other services as appropriate. 

Fitness and mobility

  • advice and support to koroua and kuia to help improve their mobility and fitness

  • the development of action plans to improve fitness and mobility

  • referrals for assistance with any disability or mobility needs.
